Trek the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and North Africa






Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and the whole of North Africa.
Compared to the 2 day/1 night option, this trek will give you an extra day to adjust to the altitude and the gentler pace will allow for more time to explore the other sights of the Atlas mountains before reaching the summit of Mount Toubkal.

Trek from Imi Orlad to Tizi Ousam guest house. First trek to the Tizi N Tacht 2020m mountain pass for a lunch stop with views of Azzaden valley. After lunch, walk down the Azzaden Valley to the Tamssoult guest house.
Approx 5 hours of walking
Overnight at Tamssoult guest house
After breakfast climb out of the Azzaden Valley to the Aguelzim Mountain pass (3,560m), stop for lunch before making our way to the Toubkal Refuge via Ighouliden waterfalls.
Approx 7 hours of walking
Overnight Toukbal at Refuge or camping when conditions allow (3206m)
Trek Toubkal Refuge to Toubkal Summit (4165m) – in the early morning after breakfast we will climb to the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. When you reach the summit you will see unrestricted views in every direction, from Marrakech to the Sahara.
Toubkal Summit to Imlil – Head down the mountain towards Imlil stopping for lunch en route.

Accommodation for our trekking trips is in small, locally owned refuges or camping.
All accommodation has water and electricity, as well as tasty home cooked meals.
A mountain refuge typical room is dormitories with bunk beds with mattresses and pillows provided.
There are also communal areas to relax and share your trekking experience with fellow trekkers.

We will send you a full packing list after you confirm your trip. If you are traveling without an item that you need this can all be hired from Imlil for a low cost.
In general you will need good walking boots, clothing for both warm weather e.g. shorts and t-shirt and cold/rain/snow e.g. waterproof jacket, trousers, gloves and hat.
You will also want a small rucksack, sunglasses, a torch, suncream, a towel and toilet paper.
You will need a sleeping bag and head torch, although if you don’t wish to travel with these they can be hired. A sleeping bag is around £3 per day to hire.
There is nothing to stop you walking the Atlas Mountains without a guide but it is not recommended as the routes are unmarked and conditions can be dangerous. Our experienced guides will ensure a safe and enjoyable climb.
Given the height of the Atlas Mountains there is potential for altitude sickness. This depends on the individual and we cannot predict an individual’s chance of suffering and to what degree. The guide will fully manage the climb to reduce chances of developing altitude sickness.
